The finale of Kente & Silk’s 2ndStart-Up competition is happening this Sunday 26thMay! This promises to be an exciting and inspiring event. Kente & Silk is a social enterprise dedicated to improving Africa – China relations and Africa week represents a deidicated period where we facilate events aimed at increasing engagement with the African community, culture and arts. We also believe that Africa-China relations can be improved, in part, by supporting African entrepreneurs based in China


2019 Africa week will have a plethora of events, including art exhibitions, film screenings and event culinary tastings. Profits from this series of events will be awarded to a promising start-up and/or business idea this weekend. This event represents all the hard work of Kente & Silk and its partners, so please be sure to attend this final event in the 2019 Africa Week series. 

Our finalists this year were chosen because of their unique ideas, business strategy and commitment to the support of Africa, African in China and Africa-China relations. The finalists have businesses ranging from the technology, fashion and recruitment sectors, find out more about them below. 


Between 18th - 26th May 2018, we held Beijing's first-ever Africa week and over 650 people attended 7 activities. Activities included creative and discursive activities that culminated in a start-up competition and alll profits from Africa Week (30,000RMB) was awarded to the most promising African Start-Up: Nani's Creations.

This year Africa Week came back this year working with partners for a bolder and more innovative week with the theme "a new era of Africa-China relations in China". This will culminate in this African Start-Up Pitch Competition that highlights the entrepreneurship of Africans here in China. 


Join us on May 26 to witness the 5 start-ups, selected through a rigorous process and judged by a panel of experts and successful entrepreneurs, to present their Africa-China related business to Beijing. Winners will be given support to grow their business through mentorship, matching with incubators, training, and other resources. 

Come and join this pinnacle moment and celebrate the this unique opportunity to showcase innovation in the community as we prepare to close Africa Week 2019 on a brilliant high.
