Speaker for the week: Mark Zober
Our speaker, visiting Rotarian Mark Zober, will focus on one of our Rotary guiding principals: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
We have had many peace making successes over the 111 years - today, more then ever, we are witnessing spike regional and local conflicts. As Rotarians, from diverse backgrounds & shared values, we can and should commit our time, talent & treasure to developing & supporting peace building projects. There are tremendous opportunities and many challenges in peace building. Mark will provide a specific case study: Promoting Rotary initiated peace building in the Middle East.
Mark was born in Pittsburgh, PA & grew up in Southern California.
Today, he is both a citizen of the USA & Israel.
Marj's formal education includes undergraduate degree in economics ;San Diego State), masters degree in international development U of Pittsburgh) & Ph.D in Social Welfare Management & Policy (U Brandeis)
Mark has held several senior positions in a variety of fields:
1. Academia: Professor: taught social welfare related topics at Boston University, Brandeis, Cornell, Haifa University & the Hebrew University
2. Volunteer Service: US Peace Corps Country Director (Mongolia); PC Volunteer (Sierra Leone & India)(
3. Jewish Communal Service: Jewish Federation & Jewish Community Center Executive Director;
4. Civil Servant: Research Division Director, Ministry of Social Affairs, Government of Israel.
Today Mark is a licensed Israel tour guide
He is married to PP Dr. Marilyn Farber, has three children & three grandchildren
