Given the current growth rates for GDP per capita, population and urbanization in countries in Africa, it is critical now more than ever to tap into the agriculture sector’s potential and ensure that from the policies created to the technologies applied, a holistic approach to agriculture is taken.
Through this platform, the objective is to explore key factors that led to growth of agricultural sectors in China, the current status of agriculture in Africa, and where the opportunities lie in terms of strengthening the China-Africa linkages from an industry perspective. Our panel will include a range of speakers from international organizations and private sector.
- Feven Tsehaye: A Consultant working on behalf of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's China Office. Her primary focus is on the China-Africa Investment Strategy, and the shaping and execution of several supporting investments under this initiative, in particular as it relates to agriculture and healthcare. She previously served as a fellow for Vittana's partner in Peru to scale micro-loans products, and has prior experience in public and non-profit sectors in the U.S. Feven graduated with her M.P.A. in International Development from Tsinghua University in 2014. She is an advocate for building sustainable solutions through private sector engagement.
- Buyambo Mantashe: A young agribusiness man from South Africa. Over the years, he has diversified his portfolio in the agricultural sector by being involved in agricultural ventures such as feedlot projects, poultry farming, mutton and beef production and trading of meat products. Currently, he is in Beijing pursuing a Masters degree in Agricultural Economics and Management, a tool that would enable him to grow an in depth understanding of the sector.
