Designing For Play!

How can we make Shanghai a more playable city?

Techyizu is excited to bring you the fifth edition of Designing Shanghai on June 6.  This year you are invited to look into how we could design Shanghai to be more fun!  We are drawing inspiration from the Playable Cities event in Bristol, and seeing how we can incorporate the idea of “play” into the city and into our lives.

Play is a compelling and powerful tool. It can change behaviour; transform perceptions of space; and inspire audiences to participate and contribute, rather than simply observe. For this sprint, participants will work together to experiment and prototype playful interventions that use creative technologies to rethink public space.

 -- From Playable Cities

As with previous Designing Shanghai events, the day will be divided into a morning and afternoon session.  The morning session will have talks from design experts that will share their insights into design thinking, Human Centered Design, and the theme of “play”.

In the afternoon, participants form teams, choose a design challenge, and take to the streets of Shanghai to research the problem.  On return to the venue, teams will synthesize their research, brainstorm solutions, and create rapid prototypes to share with the rest of the group.

The event is free to attend, and everyone is welcome – designers, researchers, entrepreneurs, developers, marketers, artists, consultants, students, and more.  Our only requirement is that you have a passion for rediscovering the city around you.

Everyone can attend the morning session however you must register for the afternoon workshop will start on May 28th.
